Hi there, I'm Kemi!

Change is hard but possible! I am here to help you reach your goals and encourage a healthier and more motivated you. My name is Kemi Ayanfalu, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist in California with over 10 years of experience. I have a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflict, behavioral challenges, abandonment, rejection, grief, generational trauma, suicidal or homicidal ideations. Trauma impacts overall functioning. Using my strong background in trauma-informed care, I have created a counseling style that is genuine, individualistic, and encouraging. In session, we will create a safe place to express, change, and grow. I cannot wait for us to start working together!

My approach

My approach combines client-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy. My dedicated time with you will assist in identifying treatment goals, developing an individualized treatment plan that will provide you with the healthy skills to reach your full potential.

My focus

I typically work with a diverse range of clients, spanning from adults facing various mental health challenges to couples seeking support for their relationships. My practice often involves individuals struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and mood disorders. I understand the unique complexities of these conditions and provide a compassionate and tailored approach to help clients navigate their emotional well-being. Whether it's supporting individuals in their journey toward healing and self-discovery or helping couples build stronger, more resilient relationships, I am dedicated to fostering a safe and nurturing therapeutic environment that encourages personal growth and positive change.

My communication style

In my therapeutic practice, I strive to cultivate an environment where clients feel truly safe, deeply connected, and profoundly validated. Safety is paramount, as I believe that individuals must feel secure and comfortable in order to open up and explore their innermost thoughts and emotions. I create a nonjudgmental and empathetic space where clients can express themselves without fear of criticism. Additionally, I emphasize the importance of fostering a strong sense of connection, as human relationships and genuine understanding are central to the therapeutic process. Clients are encouraged to share their experiences, knowing that they will be heard, seen, and respected. Validation is an essential component of my approach, acknowledging the validity of each person's unique experiences and emotions, which helps clients build self-awareness and self-acceptance. Together, we work to create an environment that promotes healing, growth, and positive change.

My journey to mental healthcare

Becoming a therapist has been a profound personal calling driven by my deep-rooted desire to help others and serve my community. From a young age, I have been drawn to the human condition and the intricacies of the mind and emotions. Witnessing the challenges faced by individuals within my community and recognizing the transformative power of compassionate support, I felt an overwhelming need to contribute positively to people's lives. Therapy, to me, is not just a profession but a vocation guided by a genuine passion for facilitating personal growth, healing, and empowerment. It's a way to create a ripple effect of well-being and resilience in my community, one person at a time, and to provide a safe haven for individuals seeking solace and transformation in their lives.

My goals for you

Goal setting with clients is a collaborative process, where we identify and define clear, achievable objectives tailored to their unique needs and aspirations. These goals serve as a roadmap for our therapeutic journey, providing direction and motivation. Through regular assessment and adjustment, we ensure that these objectives remain relevant and guide our work toward positive and meaningful change.

My first session with you

During the initial session, the primary focus is on gathering crucial information and understanding the client's history. This session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and establish a foundation of trust. I'll ask you about your background, personal history, and any relevant life events, as well as your current challenges and goals. We'll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your previous experiences with counseling, and your expectations. This comprehensive intake process helps me gain a holistic perspective of your unique situation, enabling us to create a personalized treatment plan that addresses your specific needs. It's also a chance for you to ask questions and learn more about the therapeutic process, fostering an open and supportive therapeutic relationship from the outset.
