My name is Dr. Alejandra Mora-Sanchez, I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist based in Los Angeles, California, working with individuals across the state through telehealth. I am a Hispanic female and provide therapy services fluently in both Spanish and English. I have experience working with individuals and couples dealing with depression, trauma, personal growth challenges, and relationship issues. I work with various treatment modalities including Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral, and Emotionally Focused, in order to fit each client's needs.
My approach
I believe that every individual is unique and complex. I take a holistic approach to therapy by integrating all aspects of who an individual is. I encourage an integrative, client-centered, culturally affirming, and collaborative approach to therapy. I believe that no one approach will fit an individual, and I like to pull from Emotion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamic approaches.
My focus
I am committed to helping individuals and couples learn how to better strengthen relationships, create meaning and hope out of experiences, and build healthy ways of coping. I have experience working with adolescents, adults, and couples struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, personal growth, life transitions, and relationship problems.
My communication style
I work with individuals and couples in an empathic and nonjudgmental environment. I value and respect each of my clients' autonomy and welcome feedback, questions, and challenges throughout the therapeutic process. I strive for each of my clients to feel comfortable sharing what is important to them.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist started with an interest in psychology through a high school course. It was later fueled by my desire to help others and sparked a passion for the need that I saw in my community. Growing up in a predominantly Hispanic community mental health was viewed as taboo, mental health was not something that was spoken about. As I learned more about psychology, I realized not only what a need I had as an individual, but also what a need my community had. Through my own personal mental health treatment I also gained insight into how beneficial therapy is and as a therapist I hope to provide my clients with the same positive experience in order to continue to promote the importance and benefits of mental health.
My goals for you
The goal-setting process is done in a collaborative manner working to understand the needs of my clients. Throughout treatment, I work with clients to assess the progress of goals and reevaluate the focus of treatment. Goals are developed to be attainable and realistic based on the individual. Having clear goals enables the use of effective strategies.
My first session with you
The first session looks different than what most treatment sessions will look like. I will spend time reviewing the necessary paperwork/information. I may also ask more questions than normal in order to assess therapy goals and gather information about mental health symptoms, behaviors, and functioning. I will answer questions regarding the therapy process and discuss therapeutic fit.
