Hi there, I'm John!

John is a kind and non-judgmental psychotherapist with a broad background in medical and clinical social work, music, and community organizing. His approach to therapy is strengths-based and eclectic. A trauma-informed therapist, John believes that many of life’s challenges can be traced to past trauma, which, left untreated, can lead to anxiety, depression, intimacy problems, social isolation, and other physical and mental health manifestations. It is generally stated that the most critical determinant to success in therapy is the working relationship that develops, over time, between therapist and client. John honors the client as the expert of their own lives and collaborates with the client to determine a treatment plan. John recognizes the impact of gender identity, family dynamics, sexuality, ethnic identification, socioeconomic status, past trauma, life stage, and physical ability when approaching treatment. John can incorporate several modalities in his therapy sessions, as well as mindfulness-based stress reduction (M.B.S.R.), cognitive behavior therapy (C.B.T.), motivational interviewing, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (E.M.D.R.). John works with the client to ensure a treatment plan that feels manageable and safe for all parties involved. He presents a unique perspective on troublesome feelings and vexing situations. Indeed, the skills one learns in therapy are helpful in the moment but valuable for a lifetime.
