Hi! I'm Kristin Gratz and I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I take a client-centered approach to therapy and believe therapy is a collaborative partnership between the client and the therapist. The focus areas of my practice include depression, anxiety, emotional regulation, trauma, stress, and panic disorders.
My approach
I'm passionate about utilizing a trauma-informed care approach; essentially changing the question from "what's wrong with you?" to "what happened to you?". I incorporate many concepts of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which primarily focuses on how thoughts impact feelings, which in turn, affect behaviors. Additionally, I utilize a strengths-based approach to tap into the client's personal strengths to support their resiliency and ability to cope.
My focus
I primarily work with adults experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic, interpersonal relationship stress, grief and loss, and trauma.
My communication style
I believe it's important to approach the therapeutic relationship with non-judgmental, honest, curiosity. I acknowledge that it can take time to build a trusting, mutually-respectful client/therapist relationship and each person is different. I'll do my best to support the communication style that works best for each client.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've wanted to spend my time helping people and animals. I thrive off of connection and I'm fascinated by cognitive processes and resiliency. Being a therapist provides an opportunity to help others, continue to learn, and support growth through tapping into the client's strengths and sharing resources. It's really cool to see others thrive and I feel honored to be a support for my clients.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with clients by asking what their goals for treatment are. The client is spending their time and resources to attend treatment and I'll do my best to honor and support their goals.
My first session with you
During the first session, I focus on building rapport, getting to know my client's goals, and identifying how I can best support them. I'll review consent, answer questions, and learn more about the client's strengths and interests.
