My name is Amy Brom and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist based in the North Bay area of San Francisco. I work with clients in a healthcare clinic there, as well as clients statewide via telehealth. I work primarily with adults and specialize in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Grief, Anxiety disorders, and Chronic Pain using Internal Family Systems Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills to help my clients recover and begin to heal their emotional wounds.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Internal Family Systems (IFS), and EMDR as well as teaching life skills from a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) perspective. All of these modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality, process emotions in a safe and structured way, and allow us to work together to reach their goals.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults throughout their lifespan, who may be dealing with the challenges of relationships, parenting, family dysfunction, grief and loss, life transitions, and trauma. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder. I work to help my clients determine the root causes of these issues, process their emotional pain, and build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accepting, and friendly. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and therefore I listen without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always enjoyed helping people solve problems and get to know themselves better, so they can use their strengths to enjoy living rather than struggling through life. I was a social worker who chose to become a psychologist because I enjoy helping individuals heal from their pasts, learn how to master their emotions, and grow in their ability to create a meaningful life.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we'll work together to set goals and track your progress.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently and what has brought you to seek out therapy at this time, and me asking questions to better understand some of why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Each individual is different, and I like to listen first before assuming I know what will work best for you moving forward.
