I am Dr. Ron Gellis and have been a Christian and Licensed Clinical, Forensic and Sports Neuropsychologist for many years. I have served in the Navy and am passionate about working with Veterans, First Responders, and their Families. I played D1 soccer, run 20 marathons, taught scuba as well as being an award-winning underwater photographer, and competed at the CrossFit Games for 3 years. I am here to help you.
My approach
I specialize in the treatment of trauma and addiction and utilize evidence-based approaches to the treatment of trauma. I focus on Post Traumatic Growth and Grief counseling where indicated. I am intimately familiar with 12-Step Programs and Christ-Centered Recovery. Clinically, I have an integrative approach with focus on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of healing. I believe “healing” takes place within the context of healthy relations.
My focus
I am passionate about working with Veterans, First Responders, and Families as well as the most overlooked population therein, their children.
My communication style
I utilize mindfulness tools with particular emphasis on breathing, visualization, and positivity. I focus on the cognitive domains of gratitude, resentment (anger) forgiveness, and amends (repentance) as foundational for healthy relations.
My journey to mental healthcare
I grew up in a home with addiction, domestic violence, and other mental health challenges. By the grace of God, I survived childhood suicide attempts and gained sobriety and healing through 12-Step Program, my discovery of Jesus Christ, and many years of my own therapy.
My goals for you
Goals are intrinsic to the therapeutic treatment plan and I utilize a SMART goal setting format. I focus on what brought the client into treatment and match their reason with a practical and pragmatic solution-based framework.
My first session with you
I like to get a history of the presenting problem as well as getting a social/ systems perspective of the individual which includes their support systems, faith, strengths, and weaknesses. Needless to say, I go over limits of confidentiality. I explain the responsibility of the patient to be committed to their healing and growth.
