Do you feel like you can't get a handle on your anxious thoughts? Are you looking to improve relationships with significant people in your life? Are you trying to figure out how to navigate the balance between respecting your immigrant parents and doing what feels best for your life? If you can relate to any of the above, I may be the therapist to help you learn to feel confident that you have the skills to make it through what you're going through.
My approach
My approach to therapy is grounded in cognitive behavioral techniques, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and a person-centered, strengths-based focus. I provide a culturally sensitive, LGBTQ+ affirming, ex-evangelical friendly, non-judgmental, and compassionate space for you to navigate your current stressors.
My focus
I specialize in working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, cultural stress, racial identity issues, and racial trauma. My goal is to help you develop coping skills and feel empowered to handle whatever challenges you are facing.
My communication style
You can expect me to communicate in an affirming, direct, and solutions-oriented manner. I will listen closely to understand your unique perspective and tailor my approach to your specific needs. Together, we will work collaboratively to help you gain clarity and move toward positive change.
My journey to mental healthcare
As a Black woman and the child of immigrant parents, I have first-hand understanding of the struggles that people of color and immigrants face in today's world. My own experiences fuel my passion to provide culturally competent mental health support. I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and completed clinical hours at Halcyon Crisis Center, New Alternatives Inc. Polinsky Children's Center, and Angels Foster Family Network to hone my skills in serving diverse populations.
My goals for you
My goals for you are to help you feel heard, understood, and validated; to guide you in developing insight and self-awareness; to teach you practical strategies to manage distress; and to empower you with the tools to enact lasting, positive changes that align with your values and aspirations. I aim to create a safe, supportive space where you can show up authentically and find relief and renewed hope.
My first session with you
In our first session, I will focus on getting to know you, understanding what is bringing you to therapy at this time, and learning about your background, strengths, and goals. We will discuss the issues you want to work on and how I can best support you. You will have space to ask me any questions you have about my approach. By the end of the session, I hope you will feel comfortable with me and confident that I can help you move forward.
