Hi there, I'm Susan!

With over 18 years of experience, I have the knowledge, experience, and training to help clients through challenging times. As human beings, we all experience challenges during our lives. The key to successfully negotiating these are understanding, possessing appropriate coping skills, looking at how we might change our thinking and behaviors, and being kind to ourselves.

My approach

Treatment choices are not made in a vacuum or from a particular theoretical model. A strategy that works well for some individuals does not work for others. Thus, my treatment strategies are unique to each individual and combine best practices that are individually tailored to each client's needs. Therapy is collaboration, a relationship between myself and my client(s).

My focus

Most of my clients are individuals struggling to cope with unresolved grief, trauma, life transitions, including divorce, and significant losses, whether a job, friendship, or the death of a loved one. Many others are desperate to improve current relationships and understand why old patterns tend to repeat. Couples seeking help are locked into emotionally painful practices that are alienating and polarizing, wanting to be connected but not knowing how to do this.

My communication style

I engage in active listening and ask questions to deeply understand your experiences. My communication is warm, direct, and non-judgmental. I provide feedback and insights to help you gain new perspectives. Collaboration is key - I see us as partners in your journey of self-discovery and growth.

My journey to mental healthcare

I earned my MA in Clinical Psychology which provided me with a strong foundation for my work as a therapist. Over my 18 years of experience, I have developed expertise in helping clients navigate complex dynamics, grief, trauma, life transitions, and relationship issues. My motivation comes from a genuine desire to support people through challenging times and empower them with understanding and coping skills.

My goals for you

My goal is to collaborate with you to explore family of origin histories, uncover limiting beliefs and assumptions formed long ago that may be adversely impacting your self-esteem and current relationships. Together we will develop understanding, build appropriate coping skills, examine how you might change your thinking and behaviors, and cultivate self-compassion. I tailor my approach to your unique needs, drawing from various modalities to craft an individualized treatment strategy.

My first session with you

In our first session, we will begin to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. I will seek to understand your current challenges, relevant history, and goals for therapy. We'll discuss my approach and how we can best work together. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions, express concerns, and get a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with me. The first session lays the foundation for our collaborative journey towards greater self-understanding and positive change.
