Hi there, I'm Kimberly!

Hello, my name is Kimberly Argil. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My approach to therapy is to create permanent healing within your life and avoid the "band-aid" approach that we sometimes get stuck into. My therapy may be challenging but is so worth it in the end.

My approach

My goal in therapy with all of my clients is to develop and enhance skills and techniques that will improve the overall quality of your life. This would include coping skills, emotional regulation, anger management, etc. Like I tell all of my clients, I'm helping you to build your "toolbox" for life. I will also be addressing the root and deeper issues that may be causing problems or any disturbances in your life. I want to avoid any "quick fixes" that can seem appealing. I very much value my work and the time that my clients are willing to invest in therapy. When I am done with therapy with a client, I hope that I have helped you to achieve the deeper healing that is required for you to grow and move forward in a positive way in your life.

My focus

I have many years of experience working with individuals that have experienced extensive trauma, especially in childhood. I typically work with individuals that are struggling with depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. I do feel that the majority of issues that we are currently experiencing in our life stem from unresolved childhood adverse experiences and the lack of knowledge as to how to process our emotions and manage our thoughts.

My communication style

I am a very gentle and soft-spoken individual. I am very laid back when it comes to the type of presence that I want to bring into my sessions. I understand that my clients need to feel comfortable enough to really do the deep work that's required to make progress. I am definitely not a serious person and use a lot of humor in my therapy. However, I do take my work very seriously. I am extremely empathetic and compassionate but will challenge you because I understand that growth and healing may not always be comfortable. But please always trust that I have your best interest at heart, and I will consider your feelings throughout the entire therapeutic process. I also encourage open communication with all of my clients.

My journey to mental healthcare

Well, to be honest with you I never thought I would become a therapist growing up. I really feel that I was called to do this work. It seemed that I was always the person that people wanted to talk to when they were feeling sad or needed advice. I think I knew when I went to college that being a counselor was the path for me. There are certain things that cannot be taught when it comes to being a therapist, and I am grateful to say that I possess those qualities. I believe my natural skills and talents are being utilized the way they were meant to. My work gives me a sense of purpose that's hard to put into words. So, I'm happy to say that I found my calling and not just a career.

My goals for you

Goal setting with all of my clients is extremely collaborative. I want you to feel empowered throughout therapy so that means you have a say in how your treatment is handled. If I feel like there is an appropriate recommendation that I can make in terms of your treatment goals, I will go ahead and communicate that with you. However, ultimately, I help all of my clients to choose and create their own treatment goals.

My first session with you

During a first session with me, I will of course check to see if there are any issues regarding safety that is currently present in your life. I will also want to get some historical information such as past experiences in therapy and so forth. I want to have a clear understanding of what is bringing you to therapy at this time. I also want to make sure that you have a clear understanding of what the therapeutic process will look like so you can make an informed decision as to whether or not you book a follow-up appointment with me.
