My name is Rebecca Small. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) from Los Angeles. I believe in taking an individualized approach with every client and tailoring therapy to your individual needs. I believe in meeting my clients where they are and providing a warm and safe space for them to work through what they are ready to do. I focus on changing thoughts and behaviors as well as increasing the utilization of positive coping skills to help improve your overall functioning and enhance your quality of life!
My approach
The most common theoretical approaches I use are cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and other behavioral interventions. I believe in setting attainable goals and hope to assist clients in improving their lives by doing and thinking differently. I also have a lengthy trauma background and utilize attachment theory to help clients understand themselves on a deeper and more meaningful level.
My focus
I have a very diverse experience with clients. I specialize in clients ranging from 5-25 and believe in supporting clients with all needs including the ones outside of the therapy room. I have been working in community mental health for 5 years and I enjoy working with clients from all different backgrounds and upbringings.
My communication style
I try to create a warm and welcoming environment for my clients. I am flexible and laid back and I enjoy tailoring my sessions to what that particular client wants or needs. I am always empathetic and believe in a strong therapeutic relationship and connection with my clients.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been drawn to mental health and helping others. I've struggled with mental battles in my own life and worked hard to become the person and therapist I am today. I found help and support along the way from therapists and other mental health professionals and I wanted to be one of those people. I hope to be a small part of helping others live better, more meaningful, more joy-filled lives.
My goals for you
I am a big fan of SMART goals. I think it's very important to set attainable goals and to be realistic with goal setting. I believe goal setting is one of the most important parts of therapy.
My first session with you
During the first session, my hope is for us to get to know each other and begin to discuss goals for therapy. It's also a time to talk about expectations and boundaries. The first sessions should be easy, comfortable, and the beginning of our alliance and connection as a team.
