My name is Dr. Lisa Miller, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD.) and Christian Ministry (D.Min.). In these roles, I have been privileged to assist hurting people for over forty years. I work with clients throughout California via telehealth., both adolescents and adults, single and married. I am a generalist and treat patients experiencing anxiety/stress and depression from diverse causes. I am a specialist if the cause of their symptoms stems from trauma, faith, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Narrative, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. These modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality and allow us to work together to chart a path forward.
My focus
My style and approach are a good fit for teens and adults dealing with life transitions and social pressures. I help my clients navigate these transition periods and build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything. I have developed the ability to listen without judgment and to help them think through possibilities formed by my education and experience.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always wanted to help people become successful in their life journeys. I have worked on that goal for most of my life as a therapist, a minister, a teacher, and an outdoor recreationist. When I am not working, you can usually find me on a cross-country bicycle trip or paddling down a river or in an ocean.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we'll work together to set goals and track your progress.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is that we spend the majority of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently and my asking questions to understand more fully why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about building an initial connection and helping us understand where we can go together in our sessions based on how you may like your life or situation to improve.
