Hello! I think it’s wonderful you’ve decided to begin work toward new personal growth and change. I’ve been engaged in clinical work now for 12 years. As a primary therapist, I’ve worked extensively within residential and outpatient dual diagnosis settings where the focus was on group work and individual therapy for individuals who struggled with addiction and mental health. I have also worked in clinical settings where the focus was on individual and group therapy for children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I believe in a person-centered, humanistic approach. I consistently practice unconditional positive regard, and I am passionate about joining with people in honor of individual life stories. I believe that music is a wonderfully effective form of stress reduction. I often encourage sharing of favorite songs during sessions which is meaningful and uplifting for my clients. I encourage the identification of specific self-care and personal productivity goals at the conclusion of each session to strengthen consistency in honor of self daily.
My approach
I utilize a dialectical behavioral approach along with a cognitive behavioral approach to encourage individual connection with self as an emotional, behavioral resource. I believe in the four core areas of dialectical behavior therapy: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. As DBT is a modality I believe to be genuinely beneficial, I often introduce and discuss specific skill sets from each of the four core areas and provide skill modules at the end of sessions. During sessions, I often introduce and utilize different mindful meditations and deep breathing exercises. I encourage engagement in expressive art of all forms and expressive writing, such as journaling. In addition to DBT and CBT, I believe in a solution-focused approach as the action of problem-solving and finding solutions in daily function is integral to achieving personal change and success in goal setting.
My focus
My greatest strengths are in helping those individuals who experience difficulty with anxiety, depression, negative impulsive behavior that is synonymous with obsessive-compulsive disorder or other related anxiety disorder(s), specific mood disorders, and chemical dependency. I am well-versed in working with individuals who have history of self-injurious behavior. I have significant experience working with individuals who have experienced historical and/or complex trauma. I also have extensive experience in working with individuals who struggle with positive interpersonal function, codependency, and confidence/self-assertion in personal relationships.
My communication style
During each session, I will provide you with the space and time you need to speak and share insight. I will always meet you where you’re at. I believe that mindful focus on, and honor of a client as they share information throughout conversation is vital to development of a strong therapeutic alliance. Provision of skill sets, ‘tools’ which represent evidence-based treatment are most definitely important, however, I also place great emphasis on provision of a safe space for in-depth conversation. I believe talk therapy and real true vocal process is vital to a positive and productive therapeutic experience. I will always be ready to listen empathetically and provide insight.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to begin clinical work because I truly love helping others and being of service. I’ve always had deep interest in learning about the stories of individual people. We’re all so unique and have so much to share. I believe people have the ability to connect with emotional behavioral resiliency in themselves for achievement of great change! I view therapeutic work as rewarding and humbling and I’ve had many moments in my career up to present where I’m reminded of why I chose this professional path.
My first session with you
At the time of our first meeting, I will go through assessment questions with you to gather information and learn about why you have decided to begin therapeutic work. I will make time for open conversation after gathering initial information, so I have the chance to learn about you; what interests and hobbies you have. What makes you unique. At the time of our initial meeting, I will speak with you about what specific approach I plan to take relevant to modality as everybody is different. I place effort on developing a treatment plan specific to goals and objectives you want to establish and achieve as we work together!
