Hi, my name is Crystal Folk and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Riverside County, CA I work with clients throughout the state via telehealth. I work with individuals, couples, and families. My counseling style is warm and interactive; I believe in treating everyone with respect, being sensitive, and meeting each client in the space that they are in. My counseling approach pulls from several theories, but I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, some Solution Focus Brief Therapy, and Client Centered Therapies to help meet my clients where they are in their healing journey.
My approach
I really meet the client where they are in their healing journey, I have lots of interventions and techniques that I bring into session. I like to use the analogy "We are headed on a road trip, I am the driver and you are my passenger; you have the map so you help me to navigate where we are headed." I understand that you may not know, and that is the work that we will do in sessions.
My focus
I am comfortable supporting clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, self-esteem, and issues of grief and loss. I have helped people navigate the complex aftermath that results from physical trauma or emotional abuse, and all that life brings with you. I talk about it as a journey to help provide a different perspective to the therapeutic process, it can be whatever you need it to be (a short sprint, or a marathon; I want to help you get to your goal).
My communication style
I listen to my clients, engage honestly, and provide feedback when needed. I also assign home practice to ensure you are able to apply what you are learning in session to life outside of sessions. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I took a peer facilitation class in high school, that helped me to encourage dialog between peers to help them resolve their conflict before entering back into the classroom. It was something that excited me and I moved forward to study Human Development (a focus that brings in a mix of sociology, biology, and psychology) in my undergrad degree. It helps me to understand the whole body and provides lasting change.
My goals for you
You can expect a session with me to tailor our dialog and develop a treatment plan and strategies to meet your unique and specific needs and goals. I like to provide feedback, share suggestions, and encourage home practice from our sessions, so you can see the interventions used in action.
My first session with you
Clients can expect me to listen, be genuine, and provide some education on what is going on in their situation to allow for the goal of healing in their therapeutic journey.
