Hi there, I'm Elizabeth!

My name is Elizabeth (Betsy) Magerowski, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Hawaii, where I live, and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Nevada. Offering more than 20 years of experience working in the helping industry, with a focus on helping those struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD, PTSD, grief and loss, along with eating disorders amongst other broader concerns. I utilize an eclectic strengths-based approach to therapy and change, which includes: Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, alongside Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

My approach

I firmly believe in meeting my clients where they are and developing treatment goals that are within reach. I utilize an eclectic strengths-based approach to therapy and change, which includes: Solution Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, alongside Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

My focus

I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for all ages and persons, who may be confronting the challenges of life transitions and social pressures. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and eating disorders. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods, creating goals in which to build skills that allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life.

My communication style

My communication style is reassuring, calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to know that they are in a safe space while feeling comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always naturally been involved in helping others, even in primary and secondary school, I was drawn to helping, including volunteering in the guidance office and as a teacher's assistant. While at Purdue University, I worked and volunteered with adults with intellectual disabilities, and after obtaining my bachelor's degree, I worked as a school-based case manager with school-aged children who were identified as having behavioral health concerns. Later, I moved on to working as a case manager with adults with severe and persistent mental illness, with a focus on forensic concerns. I quickly recognized that I firmly enjoyed counseling and made the leap to full time counselor, while providing supervision to new therapists entering the field full-time!

My goals for you

I have found the best approach to goal setting with clients is through building trust and rapport between myself and my client, while working together to define what you want to accomplish within the therapeutic process, and developing the steps, or realistic interventions that can help clear the path to achieving success and attaining desired goals and outcomes.

My first session with you

The first session will focus on getting to know each other, developing trust and rapport, creating an understanding of what you may be feeling, the barriers that you are facing, and how it is that I may be able to help with navigating through the therapeutic process. This will include you sharing information, and my asking questions to ensure that I am getting the fullest picture of your current position and experiences you have both had in the past and are experiencing in the present, along with considering what you are hopeful to resolve.
