Charnay Gima

Aloha! My name is Charnay Gima. I am a licensed mental health counselor in Hawai'i with over 5 years of experience. I have worked with various clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, dual diagnoses, bipolar, PTSD, substance abuse, and psychotic disorders. I've also helped many individuals who have experienced grief, self-esteem issues, and emotional abuse. This provider resides in Hawaii.

My approach

I believe in building rapport first and treating individuals with respect, compassion, and dignity. I am partnering with you on your journey whether it's healing, understanding yourself, or someone to process with. My approach is eclectic with a combination of client-centered, psychodynamic, gestalt, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

My focus

I've worked with a wide range of clients from ages 6 to our wise population. I've worked predominately with dual diagnoses from depression, anxiety to DID and PTSD, even substance abuse.

My communication style

Safety and trust are a priority in building a therapeutic alliance. I would start off with rapport building with clients, then allow them to lead. I always remind my clients to self-care and to prioritize it.

My journey to mental healthcare

I initially wanted to become a medical doctor that travel overseas but in a meeting with my mentor, he reminded me that doctors usually do not build relationships with their clients/patients and encouraged me to become a counselor/therapist instead. I followed his advice and never looked back. Not only that, but I enjoy my job and partnering with individuals in their journeys.

I would allow my clients to set their goals and partner with them in their treatment plans.

It will be a "talk story" style in getting to know one another, and there are no formalities involved.
