Aloha! My name is Lorri Bessette and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Honolulu, HI and provide therapy statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in anxiety, depression, stress management, and interpersonal problems, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness techniques to help my clients develop coping skills to manage symptoms, stress, and other challenges.
My approach
My approach to therapy is always with compassion and objectivity, and customized for each client, to address their unique challenges. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness strategies, to help build a shared understanding of concerns and allow us to work together on therapeutic goals.
My focus
My focus is to serve adult individuals who may be facing psychosocial stressors, and suffering from anxiety, depression, overwhelm, and hopelessness. We will work together to increase insight, develop coping skills to manage stressors, improve relationships, and increase self-esteem. This will allow for a sense of empowerment and better quality of life.
My communication style
My communication style is calm and open. I want my clients to feel comfortable sharing as I listen without judgment. We are therapeutic partners. We will explore your difficulties and challenges, and develop a game plan to improve your mental health. I will serve as a guide and empower you with the tools you need on your journey.
My journey to mental healthcare
We are all shaped by our unique experiences. I've always been fascinated by people and the human condition, so it felt natural to be the listener and observer - characteristics that serve me well as a therapist. My career started 20+ years ago. I have worked with a variety of clients, including people experiencing homelessness, seniors, the severely mentally ill, and Veterans. It's a privilege to have clients open up, and witness their progress toward goals.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a necessary component in the client's recovery and progress. We will work together to define current challenges and barriers, as well as strengths, abilities, and resources. We will move at a pace that's comfortable for you, while we continue to develop skills and strategies along the way. You are in the driver's seat, I'm simply here to support and guide you!
My first session with you
We will spend our first session, getting to know each other. You will provide some history, and current challenges or concerns, as well as goals for treatment. Then I will provide an overview of what therapy may look like, and expectations of client and the therapist. I would like you to be comfortable asking questions, and communicating concerns, as it is my goal to provide that safe space for you.
