My approach is therapy is for us to work together as a team. I do have treatment goals based on what you want to work on, and if you agree to those goals, then we work on it together and with some homework. Therapy is about you, so if one day you came in and had a bad day, let's talk about that. This provider resides in Hawaii.
My approach
The theoretical approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Depending on the person's needs, I can switch to solution-focused or narrative.
My focus
I work with clients who have anxiety, sleep issues, anxiety attacks, depression, PTSD, anger, life goals, communication problems, medical issues that you want to talk about, loss, work-life balance, divorce, life cycle changes, and any issue that upset or frustrates them.
My communication style
Clients like to work with me because I am a good listener, have treatment goals, make progress, and we can talk about anything. In 2023 I will complete my Ph.D. I have both practice experience and education, which keeps me current on research and treatment methods.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been a therapist since 2009. I started as an Army active duty military therapist. When I retired, I returned to college to get my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy. At the same time, I worked for five years as an intern therapist is a small practice in Michigan and as a Lead therapist at a nonprofit home for transitional veterans called Vets Returning Home in Roseville Michigan. I was a Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) for the Navy and worked in private practice in Honolulu. In 2023, I will receive my Ph.D. in General Psychology. What drives me is that there are a lot of therapists but not a lot of really good ones. I feel that I can help make a difference in your life and will work hard to make that possible.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is to listen to your concerns and look at areas that you want to work on. In the next session, I come up with a treatment plan with goals that we agree that you want to work on, and that is what we do. Goals can change depending on your needs.
My first session with you
In the first session, I introduce myself because I want you to feel comfortable with me. Then I ask you many questions to figure out what is going on. I ask what three things you would l like to work on. Then if you agree on the goals based on the 1st thing you want to work on, next session, we are working together to make those goals possible.
