Aloha, My name is Georgianne Nacionales, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Hilo, Hawaii (but you can call me Georgie). I deliver therapeutic services to clients statewide via Telehealth. I currently enjoy providing clinical therapy to adults; specializing in stress, anxiety, and processing complex family and relationship issues. I utilize a mixture of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), with some Mindfulness Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy tactics to help my clients process through challenges and start feeling better about their self, relationships, past, or futures.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each individual client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy; as both modalities help the client and me to build a shared understanding of their current reality and allow us to work together to chart a path forward and past whatever difficulties may lie in their past.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for younger adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and social pressures... This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, or even relationship and family issues. Regardless of your age, I will always work to help my clients navigate transitional periods and build the skills to allow yourself to move forward in life, through whatever obstacles that may lay in their way.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, personable, and laid back. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment. I try to always start sessions with a conversation (initially, I will ask a lot of questions, but this is just so I can gain a better understanding of your personal and medical history, communication style, and wants from our sessions). Additionally, I have been described by clients as supportive, honest, caring, and compassionate, with a pretty good sense of humor.
My journey to mental healthcare
Being born and raised in Hawaii, I started to take a hard look at my community and the hardships that surrounded it at an early age. I suppose that I always knew that I was going to serve my community someday. Simply stated, I have always naturally been drawn to helping people through difficult times. Perhaps this is because I myself have been through a lot of trials in my life. Yet, rather than hurting me, the hardships I faced has motivated me to always try and be the person that I wish I would have had as a child and young adult. I built my clinical practice around being resilient and overcoming harsh adversities, so I know that anyone can do it, sometimes, people just need someone to help them! I genuinely enjoy seeing individuals become the best versions of themselves and want to help them achieve their goals and be exactly who they want to be. Let me be that for you, because in case no one has told you, you deserve to be happy!
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we will work together to set goals and track your progress; and if things change along the way, we'll tackle that hurdle when we get there.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently and for me to ask questions to better understand some of why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Each individual is different, and I like to listen first before assuming I know what will work best for you moving forward.
