My name is Jose Daniel Go Rojales, but you can call me Dan. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) based in Pahoa, Big Island Hawaii. I work with couples, young adults, adults, and older adults dealing with relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and trauma. I use Art Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy to help my clients progress and achieve their goals. This provider resides in Hawaii.
My approach
My approach is based on Art therapy and Narrative therapy. It involves collaborating with my clients in uncovering the challenges that they are facing in their lives, supporting them in regaining control over their problems, and collaborating with them in re-authoring a much-preferred life story in which their problems are no longer in charge. I use art making as a means of carrying out these themes and supporting my clients' psychosocial and emotional well-being. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to support clients with thoughts and behaviors that are causing them distress, and I use Family Systems therapy with couples and families who are having relationship challenges.
My focus
My style and approach are a good fit for couples, young adults, adults, and older adults who are facing challenges in areas of communication and life transition due to stress, trauma, anxiety, and mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and trauma. I collaborate with my clients in learning effective ways of communicating, navigating life transitions, and learning coping strategies in dealing with mental illness.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, respectful, empathic, focused, personable, and curious. I want my client' to feel comfortable respected and listened to. I want them to feel safe and open to sharing whatever they would like to share.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist because it is a career that is meaningful to me. Of all the various types of jobs that I've ever had, those that involved creativity and helping others were the most fulfilling. This led me into pursuing a career as an Art therapist and Marriage and Family therapist.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is to first create rapport by building trust and just getting to know each other. After I will collaborate with my client in creating meaningful, reasonable, and achievable goals.
My first session with you
My first session with you will involve talking most of the time about how you are currently feeling I will then ask you about what brings you to therapy and have you elaborate on the topic. After, I will share a little about myself and what you might expect during our sessions, and then we will take it from there.
