Hi there! My name is William Chum, LMHC. As a mental health researcher and expert in culture and identity conflicts, my therapy work starts with making space for your unique lived experiences, identities, and how you show up in your different worlds.
My approach
I am trained in a range of evidence-based therapy techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. I help my patients learn about themselves, explore issues that have led to emotional distress, and teach them skills to manage the situations at hand. Therapy can involve exploring your past, present, and future challenges and pursuing an emotional growth to handle it all.
My focus
My patients are typically individuals who want to work on navigating the many facets of their identities while coping with life, work, family, relationships, and cultural stress. I specialize in helping individuals work through anxiety, depression, and traumatic experiences, whether it be acute trauma or a complex and intergenerational trauma.
My communication style
My office is a warm and welcoming, zero-judgment, safe zone for individuals of all races, ethnicity, religion, nationality, immigration status, sexual orientations, gender identities, and capabilities. In my work as a therapist, there is little that I have not heard before. I invite you to bring your truest and most authentic self on your journey to healing.
My first session with you
During our first session, you will be invited to share your history and your story with me in the safe space that we are building. Psychotherapy works best when it is tailored to the individual, and you will never be rushed or pushed to explore anything that you are not yet comfortable with. Though I will provide my best guidance to help you achieve your own emotional equilibrium.
