My name is Chelsea Cordero and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) working with clients throughout Hawaii via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in anxiety, depression, family conflict, grief, life transitions, men's issues, substance abuse, and women's issues.
My approach
My approach to therapy is client-centered so this approach will look different for everyone I work with. Whether our focus for treatment is solution-based, skill-building, or simply providing a safe space for you to openly process your thoughts and feelings- my ultimate goal is to ensure a treatment plan catered to your needs. I typically use modalities of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
My focus
I believe my style and approach are a good fit for adults who feel stuck and want change. This feeling can be related to anxiety, depression, family conflict, grief, life transitions, and/or substance abuse. My main objective is to assist you with reaching your goals because you are worthy of the life of your choosing.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, direct, and empowering. I aim to create a safe space for clients to genuinely express their thoughts and feelings in session so this skill may carry on to daily life. I am also not afraid to ask questions to ensure I am hearing you correctly. Sessions are your time to work towards your goals so I encourage clients to provide feedback about how I can best support you.
My journey to mental healthcare
As a Native Hawaiian born and raised in Hawaii, the concept of collective well-being was stressed and has deeply influenced my passion to serve others. I feel my role as a therapist is my way of giving back to the community and it warms my heart to see clients become the best version of themselves.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting involves actively listening to clients and seeking collaboration to identify a plan that best fits their needs. I typically ask clients to prioritize concerns so we can steadily work on improving skills and confidence in using skills in each area.
My first session with you
During our first session together, I hope to hear what brought you to therapy. I know seeking support is a brave choice and I want to honor that action by actively listening to your thoughts and feelings and collaborating to identify goals for our future sessions. In addition, I will explain my role in the therapeutic process and answer any questions you may have about our working relationship.
