Aloha! I'm Gary I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I've been practicing therapy for over 25 years. I am committed to partnering with you on your path to healing and growth.
My approach
You know yourself better than anyone else on this planet. You know your strengths (yes, we all have them) and your limitations (yes, we all have them). We have all been challenged while living in this world. I provide a trusting environment and build our therapeutic relationship by unpacking your situation at a pace comfortable to you. I generally use a client-centered, solution-focused, and strengths perspective in my therapy. However, I have found that it can be useful to use a variety of theoretical approaches while working with clients. This is because every person is different and I honor those differences.
My focus
I typically work with adults and teens as young as 16 years old. I've worked with many people impacted by trauma, grief, and loss. Also, I've worked with people experiencing depression and anxiety.
My communication style
Working with me will feel like sitting down with a trusted person who will listen, ask questions, and occasionally challenge you.
My journey to mental healthcare
I knew I wanted to work with people but I wasn't sure in what capacity. I had a clinical internship in graduate school and I fell in love with being a therapist. I started my career in a small non-profit in Houston, Texas. I was a generalist but gravitated toward people who experienced trauma and loss. Over the years, I had a variety of positions (some in management and some not) but have maintained my commitment to engaging with clients and partnering with them on their therapeutic journey. I always feel honored when people invite me into their world and I hope to support you along your path.
My goals for you
Goals will be identified early in our relationship and will come out of a deep exploration of your situation. You set the goals. I just keep us on track and support you through the process.
My first session with you
The first session is an opportunity for me to get to know you and for you to get to know my role in the therapy process. Our therapeutic relationship is key in moving toward positive change and healing.
