Hi there, I'm Michelle!

My name is Michelle Harris, LCSW. With over ten years of experience in behavioral health, I specialize in utilizing cognitive theory-based interventions to support individuals in achieving the changes they desire in themselves and their lives. My therapeutic approach emphasizes a strengths-based perspective, empowering each individual to harness their personal strengths and experiences for future improvement. I am open-minded and have had the pleasure of working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, ages, socioeconomic groups, faiths, and those who identify as part of the LGBTQIA community.

My approach

In my practice, I utilize a client-centered therapeutic approach rooted in cognitive theory. I prioritize creating a safe and nonjudgmental space where individuals can explore their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and how their history has shaped them. Through collaborative dialogue and evidence-based techniques, I aim to empower clients to identify and leverage their inherent strengths and resources. My emphasis on a strengths-based perspective allows clients to cultivate self-awareness, resilience, and meaningful change. Furthermore, I hold a deep appreciation for narrative therapy, valuing its ability to help individuals reframe their life stories, recognize their agency, and construct empowering narratives that align with their values and aspirations. Additionally, I am committed to cultural humility and inclusivity, recognizing and respecting the diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences of each individual I work with.

My focus

I work with a diverse range of clients spanning various ages, backgrounds, and identities. I am comfortable treating individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related issues, grief/loss, and life transitions. Additionally, I have experience working with people from various groups, including those from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. My therapeutic approach is adaptable and tailored to meet the unique needs and goals of each client I serve.

My communication style

My goal is to create an inviting atmosphere during my sessions, prioritizing a sense of safety and non-judgment. Clients have described feeling at ease and reassured, knowing they can openly explore their thoughts and emotions without fear of criticism. I maintain a casual and relaxed approach, fostering an environment where clients feel comfortable and empowered to engage in meaningful dialogue and self-reflection.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was drawn to a career as a therapist by a deep-rooted desire to witness individuals reach their fullest potential. Over time, I've observed many strengths remain underdeveloped due to self-doubt or a lack of belief in one's capabilities. My passion lies in empowering individuals to recognize their inherent worth, trust in their abilities, and leverage their strengths to make meaningful contributions to their families and communities. Through my work, I am committed to fostering self-awareness, instilling confidence, and guiding individuals towards a positive self-perception, ultimately facilitating their journey towards personal growth and fulfillment.

My goals for you

I approach goal setting with clients by first exploring their desired outcomes and the changes they wish to achieve through therapy. Utilizing a strengths-based model, I collaborate with clients to develop goals that are meaningful, achievable, and aligned with their strengths and values. These goals are then broken down into manageable steps to ensure progress and success throughout the therapeutic process.

My first session with you

During the first session, clients can expect a comprehensive exploration of their personal history through the use of a biopsychosocial assessment. This assessment delves into various aspects of their life, including present circumstances and past events that contribute to a holistic understanding of their experiences. Through dialogue and examination of reported history, we collaboratively identify the client's goals and discuss any pertinent diagnoses. This initial session serves as a foundation for our therapeutic journey, ensuring a tailored approach that addresses the client's individual needs and aspirations.
