Samantha Armer, LICSW (MA), LCSW (NY). Working from a holistic perspective, along with the client, I seek to review all the areas of a client's background to help form the best direction for therapy. We work together to design your care in a collaborative and compassionate manner.
My approach
I seek to form a synergistic relationship with clients to help them raise their self-esteem, recognize their strengths, and create positive goals. Key areas of interest include alternative family structure, sexuality, grief, and trauma. My work is strongly informed by feminist theory and cultural humility.
My focus
I greatly enjoy working with teens, early adulthood through the lifespan. Working with individuals who want to be heard, validated, and are engaged is more important than a particular condition. Topics I am very comfortable with include: gender and sexuality, identifying your strengths and fine tuning them for finding greater joy and balance, issues to do with parenting, child development, ENF/poly identities, family dynamics, and improving communication.
My communication style
My goal is to offer you a holding environment where you feel comfortable, able to approach your growing edges. I use metaphors, imagery, humor, kindness, and listen with the softest part of my ear to meet you where you are each time we are together.
My journey to mental healthcare
As early as I can remember, I knew that people want to be met with empathy, compassion, and warmth; I also knew that we cannot always get that. Being able to turn my abilities to assisting people become more present, to feel more supported has touched all of my relationships.
My goals for you
This is collaborative, developed through open inquiry, and revisited frequently to assess if goals have shifted for you.
My first session with you
Warmth, open questions, acknowledgment that we are new to each other and we agree to work towards greater trust and exploration over time.
