My name is Shelia Miller. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. I work with both adolescents and adults providing individual mental health therapy. My focus practice area includes depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress management.
My approach
In my approach to doing work with clients, I utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) as some approaches that clients tend to find helpful to feel better.
My focus
I have found my approach works well with individuals from varying backgrounds including BIPOC. I am comfortable working with the type of individual who is seeking support, understanding, and healing.
My communication style
I like to create an environment that is both soothing and open. I will provide guidance and support and validate you for whatever you are going through.
My journey to mental healthcare
My desire to work in this profession comes from a long list of other women in my family that were "helpers". Doing whatever they could within their community when people fell on hard times. This compassionate caring was modeled for me from an early age, and I really enjoy meeting people and hearing their stories.
My goals for you
I like to offer that clients freely contribute to their goals and will also offer suggestions if they are open to them.
My first session with you
You will be listened to and also given my attention. I want to make sure I understand what brought you to wanting to have help. I might ask you some clarifying questions to be sure I know where you are coming from. We will spend time getting to know one another and finding a starting point that you are comfortable with.
