Hi there, I'm Amy!

My name is Amy Zuren and I am licensed in Ohio as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Supervisor Credential (LPCC-SUPV), Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC), and passed the Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) certification examination. I utilize cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, person-centered, narrative, and motivational interviewing within my clinical practice. With respect to addiction and recovery treatment, I believe that harm-reduction interventions create motivation for change for abstinence behaviors. The focus of my clinical practice is treating the client's needs instead of being focused on the diagnosis or a rote treatment regimen. Interventions and approaches may need to change during therapy, so I am flexible, and I ask for openness from my clients regarding new ideas, suggestions or coping skills as well.

My approach

Counseling is a journey and not a one-tank trip. Counseling with me will be interactive and collaborative. Change and personal growth is a personal journey that has its own rate of speed. In between sessions, I always want clients to determine what suggestions or coping skills were effective or not effective for discussion in next sessions. I utilize cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, person-centered, narrative, harm reduction/abstinence and motivational interviewing within my clinical practice.

My focus

Clinically, I provide counseling treatment for adults over age 18 and also couples for individual and couples counseling. I have experience treating depression, bipolar disorder, grief, loss, addiction, co-dependency, anxiety, stress, adjustment disorder, attention deficit, trauma, PTSD, parental stress, and chronic pain. I believe that that there is a correlation between the mind and body for wellness and emotional healing. I promote healthy lifestyles including consistent exercise, healthy eating habits, self-care regimen, and co-occurring care for physical or psychiatric conditions.

My communication style

I create an open and welcoming environment for my sessions. Sessions are structured to be a source of collaboration and a non-judgmental environment for emotional expression. Without a good rapport, counseling progress is not possible.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was driven to a be a therapist to aid those struggling with mental health or addictions. Personally, and within my family, many tough challenges have improved with the assistance of skilled therapists and experts. My drive to continue working as a therapist is bolstered by the increased insight I see within my clients and the motivation for change. Remember that counseling is a journey, all built of small steps leading to larger leaps.

My goals for you

Goal setting is a collaborative and mutual process and goals are reviewed periodically regarding progress towards those goals.

My first session with you

The first session will include an assessment, creation of a brief treatment plan (agreed goals and methods), scheduling follow up appointments, and will also allow for a question/answer session.
