Hi! I am Jennifer Wagner and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Northeast Texas and work exclusively with clients statewide via telehealth. I love that my work provides me the privilege to come alongside my clients as they work through their struggles to achieve healing.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies depending on my clients' unique needs. I most often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This approach is based on the idea that how a person thinks determines how they feel and behave. My job is to help my client identify the negative thinking patterns and use proven techniques to change them to more positive thoughts.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem, and stress. I also have a history of working with clients with substance use disorders or dual diagnosis of substance and mental health. Other clientele includes people who are diagnosed with a serious mental illness (SMI) such as schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder.
My communication style
I have a very relaxed style of communication with my clients. I pride myself on the ability to relate with almost anyone and meet them where they are. My goal is to provide a safe space to encourage clients to share and feel comfortable. I believe the therapist/client relationship is very important.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always worked in the mental health field from the age of 18. I went back to school when I was 40 years old to achieve my Master's degree after devoting most of my adult life to my husband's career in the Army. It was an adventure to my licensure in 2017. I worked the last five years at our local mental health authority as a program manager. I recently decided to "semi-retire" and began working from home as a telehealth therapist and it was a great decision!
My goals for you
I approach goal setting as a team with my client. We will work to identify what the client wants from our time together. Seeing the progress made as we track the goals helps build confidence and a positive outlook for the client.
My first session with you
During our first session, we will be completing the intake which entails you telling me why you decided to come to therapy and me asking a lot of questions to make sure we are on the same page going forward. This is the time when we make the first connection and start building that therapist/client relationship I mentioned previously.
