Hi there, I'm Lindsey!

My name is Lindsey Van Roo and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have worked with clients ranging in age from 6 years old to 54. Some common areas of focus in my sessions are personality growth, life goals, emotional regulation, coping skills, stress management, and trauma processing.

My approach

I utilize DBT, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing in the majority of sessions. I also use some aspects of IFS, TF-CBT, and Art Therapy during sessions. I believe utilizing a strengths based approach and self compassion are also key to be able to understand or progress in therapy.

My focus

I have had experience with clients from several different populations and in different areas of life. Most of my experience has been with teens and their families doing individual and family therapy. I have also worked with parents individually or as a couple to help support them and their families. I am comfortable treating a wide variety of diagnoses and conditions including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, stress, ADHD, PTSD, and some personality disorder.

My communication style

My goal with each client during our session is to help create a space where they can come to feel safe, heard, and supported. I believe that every person is unique and everyone needs a different approach to their sessions. I utilize a person centered approach and shift how I support each person based on their current needs and situation by meeting the client where they are. In some sessions, skills are taught and goals are set. In others, we talk and process as we work together to help the client heal.

My journey to mental healthcare

I enjoy working with people, learning from them, and supporting when I can. Social Work is a field where I can do that while getting to meet people from different walks of life who, more often than not, are incredibly resilient, wise, and strong. I also have seen the benefits of therapeutic interventions in many lives and enjoy the process of walking through different sessions with individuals similar or different than myself.

My goals for you

We meet together where the client is. Meaning, if they are ready and able to set a goal I support them there. If they are unsure or unaware of how and why goals can be helpful, we learn together and set appropriate goals. I believe each person is the expert in their own lives and I appreciate the opportunity to support them as they see that.

My first session with you

During a firs session with me, I like to gather as much information about the clients background, family, and situation as possibly. This is based on what they are comfortable with sharing in an initial session, only and nothing more. This helps me understand as much as I can about each client's life experience before we start working together.
