Hi there, I am a licensed provider in the states of Florida, Tennessee, and Missouri. I have worked in the social services field for 25 years and have provided therapy services to a variety of clients with a varying degree of complex diagnoses and symptomology. I have over 15 years of experience with at-risk youth, the LGBTQ population, and trauma work. I look forward to meeting you and working towards meeting your treatment needs and goals.
My approach
As a therapist, I am empathic and supportive. I am client-centered and go through the therapeutic process at a speed that the client is comfortable with, as it is your journey. I have an eclectic array of therapeutic approaches to therapy. I typically use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectal behavioral therapy (DBT), solution focus, and motivational interviewing techniques to help the client meet their therapeutic objectives and goals.
My focus
I have worked with a diverse population of specialties. I have experience with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in therapy. I have a wealth of experience working with at-risk youth. I started my career in child welfare. I have worked extensively working with the LGBTQ population through individual therapy and with LGBTQ couples. Recently I have worked virtually with clients with relationship problems, anxiety, and depression.
My communication style
I create a safe and secure therapeutic environment for the client. I communicate openly and honestly, however with empathy and support. I at times do find the need to challenge the client, however, it is done in a professional and compassionate manner.
My journey to mental healthcare
Growing up in an overcrowded inner-city working-class neighborhood in Philadelphia PA, there was an overall lack of diversity. In college, I was drawn to sociology and learning about other races, ethnicities, and cultures. I became interested in small groups and what their specific challenges and barriers to happiness and success. This started in my career with at-risk families in the child welfare system. Through this field I chose to get a master’s degree in social work and eventually because a licensed clinical social worker.
My goals for you
I initially ask the client to identify objectives and goals that they want to work on. I collaboratively work with them in establishing obtainable measurable goals.
My first session with you
In the initial session, clients should expect to be listened to and validated. They will receive empathy, compassion, and support. This therapist will make every possible effort to make the client feel safe and secure through the process. The general therapeutic process will be explained. The client will have the opportunity to ask questions about this provider’s experience and about the therapeutic process. The therapist will obtain a psychosocial history of the client and complete an assessment of clinical needs to help establish a treatment plan that correlates with the client's verbalized objectives and goals.
