Hi there, I'm Leigh!

I am Leigh Swanson, Licensed Professional Counselor, and I specialize in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to empower clients and families in overcoming emotional and behavioral challenges. By identifying and re-evaluating negative thought and relationship patterns, I guide individuals toward healthier, more adaptive perspectives. This collaborative approach promotes lasting change and self-improvement, equipping clients with the tools needed to navigate life's complexities with resilience and confidence.

My approach

I utilize a client-centered approach to therapy and use the approach that will most benefit the process of change. I am highly collaborative in our work and believe that a combination of changes in thoughts and new behavior can open the door to a new way of being in your life.

My focus

As a therapist, I primarily work with clients who experience a range of emotional and psychological difficulties, such as anxiety, depression, OCD, and relationship problems. I understand that individuals may struggle with overwhelming worry, persistent sadness, intrusive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, or interpersonal conflicts. My aim is to provide tailored support and coping strategies, enabling clients to better manage their symptoms and enhance their overall well-being.

My communication style

My communication style is characterized by warmth and empathy, which creates a comfortable and supportive environment for clients. I approach conversations with a great sense of humor, allowing for light-hearted moments that can ease tension and foster connection. Furthermore, I maintain a nonjudgmental attitude, ensuring that clients feel heard, valued, and respected throughout our interactions.

My journey to mental healthcare

From a young age, I've been drawn to understanding and supporting the emotional well-being of others. This interest developed into a passion for helping people navigate their mental health challenges and find a sense of balance in their lives. Becoming a mental health therapist allowed me to channel this passion into a fulfilling career, where I have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of those who seek my guidance.

My goals for you

As a therapist, I collaborate with clients to establish clear and attainable goals, prioritizing their needs and aspirations in the process. We break down these objectives into manageable steps, making them more achievable and motivating for the client. Throughout our sessions, we regularly review and adjust goals as necessary, ensuring that progress is made and clients continue to develop the skills needed for long-term success.

My first session with you

During our first session, you can expect to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your background, and any relevant personal history. I will work to establish a safe, nonjudgmental space for open communication. This initial session is also an opportunity for me to explain my therapeutic approach, outline the treatment process, and collaboratively set goals for future sessions.
