Hello: My name is Sevena Boughton, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW-C). I have worked with individuals, couples and families seeking counseling for over 30 years. I am passionate about supporting all of my clients through various challenges or trauma and having them experience healing and fulfillment.
My approach
My therapy approach is individualized and eclectic. It's based on the needs of each of the clients I work with. It's eclectic as I utilize an assortment of apporaches and tools to optimize the needs and goals of the client. I frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Client Centered Therapy. Both modalities help to build a shared understanding of the client's reality and their concerns. All the approaches and modalities I use permit us to work together to chart a new path.
My focus
I have found my style and approach to be a good fit for those 18 years and older- spanning the entire adult life cycle. Those adults dealing with challenges of life transitions and social pressures. This takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss. I work with clients to navigate these transitions periods and to build skills which allow them feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, engaging, accommodating and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything and knowing it's a safe and confidential place. I pride myself on listening compassionately and without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have lived in many states throughout the nation and abroad and have naturally taken an interest in the human experience. How we navigate the journey of life, which is unique and different for everyone. I professionally enjoy seeing individuals become better versions of themselves.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is one of a partnership. We work together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This starts by developing trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time we will work together to set goals and track your progress toward those goals. I do assign homework to ensure our time together is therapeutic and we actually making progress and the client is getting better.
My first session with you
During our first session together we will spend the majority of the time talking about what brought you to therapy. How you have been feeling recently and asking questions to better understand why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about developing a relationship and me getting a sense of where we should go from there. Everyone is unique and different, I like to listen first, making no assumptions about what will work best for you moving forward.
