Kevin J. Kohnke is a Licensed Professional Counselor who knows what it is like to struggle with depression and anxiety, and he is eager to walk with you to address your mental health needs.
My approach
Kevin's approach is client-driven. He has a caring heart and desires for you to work on what is most important to you. Kevin has experience using Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
My focus
Kevin has walked alongside persons with many mental health concerns including but not limited to depression, anxiety, communication, parenting, anger issues, PTSD, life transitions, career coaching, and grief.
My communication style
I prefer a relaxed setting in my sessions. You may have heard "humor is the best medicine," so I try where applicable to add humor to my sessions. I also strive to find strengths in everyone I meet.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became licensed as a Mental Health Therapist while working as a Professor at Concordia University Nebraska. I did part-time counseling while teaching. After nearly 8 years in Higher Education, I returned to serving a congregation as a pastor. I became the pastor of a rural congregation in Nebraska, and after five years of service at that church, in September of 2022, I retired at age 57 from pastoring and began full-time counseling. God has been able to use me with my vast experiences to share insights into our therapeutic sessions.
My goals for you
When setting goals for treatment, it is important that the client participates and sets measurable and realistic goals that they agree to work toward.
My first session with you
In our first session, we will get to know one another as we discuss your presenting problem, past mental health therapy, and goals for your sessions.
