My name is Jessica Hodges. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Certified Substance Abuse counselor in the state of Virginia. I practice from a person-centered modality while working with my clients to develop treatment goals. I specialize in addiction, anxiety, and emotional regulation.
My approach
Person-Centered therapy is my primary approach. I believe in meeting my clients where they are while helping them to reach where they want to be. I also utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused, and Mindfulness interventions.
My focus
I am most comfortable in treating clients aged 18 and older. I believe that as long as my clients aim for improved mental health, we can work together to achieve that!
My communication style
I believe in open and honest communication with my clients. Full transparency with professional boundaries is essential in encouraging change.
My journey to mental healthcare
I began my professional goals with education. I thought I wanted to be a teacher, I realized very quickly that I did not! I took a job at a facility that provided therapy, but I was in the business office. I fell in love with what I saw happening around me and went back to school! I have a masters degree in clinical mental health as well as a masters degree in addiction counseling, I love to learn and stay up to date on changes in the field. My ultimate goal is to help clients meet their own needs with support and unconditional acceptance.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting by encouraging clients to identify their goals for therapy, as they are the experts in their own lives! I use their identified goals and work with them on creating measurable objectives to ensure progress is being made and services are adequate to address their presenting needs.
My first session with you
The first session with me will consist of us getting to know one another! I encourage questions about myself that are appropriate and professional in nature. The majority of the session will be me getting to know my client using a biopsychosocial assessment style.
