My name is Edward Sidebottom. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor at LPC in Virginia who uses a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach to help treat symptoms related to depression, anxiety, and traumatic stress.
My approach
I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, and Person-centered Therapies.
My focus
I work mostly with adults and teens who have difficulty adjusting to life stressors and who struggle with anger, depression, anxiety, and traumatic past experiences.
My communication style
I like to provide a safe environment that allows my clients the ability to let down their defenses and discuss their needs without judgment or shame.
My journey to mental healthcare
I started my path as an undergraduate at Longwood University as a Psychology Major. The human brain and behavior have always been of interest to me. I spent ten years working in a hospital in an administrative support role in a busy Intensive Care Unit and saw the impact stress has on healthcare workers. During those ten years, I also began my volunteer career as an EMT and was able to see first-hand the effects of stress on first responders. My passion for helping others who have experienced trauma ultimately led me to obtain my Master's Degree in Professional Counseling in 2016. It was during my time as a Resident in Counseling that I began working with individuals who had been diagnosed with severe mental illness.
My goals for you
After the initial session, I work in collaboration with my clients to develop long-term goals and establish short-term objectives and interventions to reach their goals.
My first session with you
During the first session, we will discuss the therapeutic process, and responsibilities of the client/therapist, discuss the general goal of therapy, and identify and get an idea of how I can be of service to you.
