Hi there, I'm Portia!

I have worked in the mental health field since 2005 as a psychodynamic-relational trained therapist. I work with adults, families, and children through a social justice and trauma-informed lens.

My approach

My approach to therapy involves providing treatment for clients in early recovery from substance use/PTSD, clients making life transitions, and clients who would like to address early childhood trauma. I teach CBT to help clients decrease symptoms of depression and improve their self-esteem. I also utilize Mindfulness techniques to help clients learn and practice self-compassion and self-acceptance.

My focus

I focus on working with individuals and have experience treating clients with behavioral issues, bipolar disorder, depression, grief, life transitions, relationship issues, sexual addiction, sexual abuse, racial identity issues, trauma and PTSD, substance use, and domestic violence.

My communication style

I communicate with directness and empathy, creating a safe space for open dialogue. My approach is collaborative - I listen closely to understand your unique experiences and needs. Through supportive feedback and guidance, I help you gain clarity and work towards meaningful change.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey to mental healthcare began in 2005 when I worked as an MFT trainee providing individual and group counseling for diverse children populations. I then gained experience in various roles such as a treatment specialist, mental health specialist, case manager, and child welfare worker before being licensed as a psychotherapist in 2019. Throughout my career, I have worked in community mental health clinics, schools, and county services to provide culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care to diverse populations.

My goals for you

My goal for you is to provide effective, individualized treatment that addresses your specific needs and helps you achieve improved mental health and well-being. Whether you are dealing with substance use recovery, life transitions, childhood trauma, or other mental health issues, I aim to create a safe, non-judgmental space for healing and growth.
