My communication style

My communication style is direct and curious. This means that I want to hear what the client has to say about the treatment they are receiving (good or bad) and share info in a supportive and respectful manner that may help them reach their goals.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have had many life experiences and great therapists who inspired me to become a provider. I've always been a natural helper, but struggled to help myself at times. This taught me a lot about self-compassion, unreasonable expectations, and the importance of a support network.

My goals for you

It's important to have the client's goal in mind, and also to be flexible enough for them to alter the focus or discussion as things come up. Life is not lived in a straight line. I also find that clients often need support with insight, recognizing patterns, and identifying counterproductive behavior. It's a delicate balance.

Our first session

The first session depends a great deal on the client and their wants and expectations. There will be some getting to know each other and questions, as well as discussing goals. Some clients may want to jump right in with learning skills; others may need some processing or work on self-esteem, etc. In the beginning, it is important to listen.
