Hi there, I'm St Clair!

I came to the profession with experience in pastoral care and counseling. I delight in doing premarital counseling, guiding couples through their marital problems and adjustments, helping divorced people manage their emotional and parenting issues, and working with individuals to sort out their personal and relational issues and problems.

My focus

I work with clients who are trying to work through the adjustment period in their marriage. Some are addressing recurring problems in their personal life or marriages. Others who are dealing with personal, emotional, and or relational issues.

My approach

I use an eclectic approach to therapy, utilizing interventions from different modalities. My approach is situation-driven. For example, I can use solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, emotional focus, or dialectical behavioral therapy depending on the particular scenario and needs being addressed.

My communication style

I invite clients to tell me about their expectations and discuss what a session would be like. I clarify what is expected of them and what they can expect from me. With couples, we set up rules for the sessions. When these parameters are in place, clients have a more enjoyable experience.

My journey to mental healthcare

During pastoral ministry, I became concerned with numerous marital and relational problems among parishioners. My curiosity fed the desire to seek professional training in the field of Marriage and family therapy.

I help clients assess their issues and problems and decide what outcomes they desire. I provide guidance but generally allow them to select their desired outcomes.

Our first session

The first session is generally spent building rapport and getting to know the clients. I encourage the clients to ask questions to help them understand my style and approach to therapy. I focus on dispelling fears, uncertainties, and anxieties.
