Hi there, I'm Mary Kay!

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Hawaii and Minnesota. I am also an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. I love, love, love working with clients and am passionate about helping clients overcome, heal, and grow from the experiences and challenges they have experienced and continue to experience in their lives.

My focus

We establish a trusting relationship and collaboratively identify your goals. Together, we develop a plan to monitor progress. Once you've accomplished your goals and feel confident using new skills, we'll plan for ending therapy.

My approach

I use a strength-based, collaborative approach incorporating tools from Family Systems, Cognitive, Behavioral, Humanistic, Trauma-Focused, and Spirituality-based therapy. I have been trained in DBT, EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT, and Parent-Child Psychotherapy. This flexible framework allows me to tailor our work to your unique needs and goals.

My communication style

I focus on building a positive, trusting, non-judgmental relationship with you. Through active listening and direct, constructive feedback, I encourage you to examine your feelings, behavior, and choices. Clients describe our sessions as a safe and warm space where they feel motivated to work towards a healthier and more productive way to live.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was trained at the University in education and counseling. People often approached me to talk about/share struggles they were facing. They would ask me what I thought would be helpful. They would thank me and share that our conversation motivated them to make some changes in their life. These conversations inspired me to seek a counseling career.

My goals for you

As an LMFT, I am able to hear and support clients in examining what they bring to all of the systems in their lives. We then focus on collaboratively creating goals they would like to work on to make changes in their life. I provide support, encouragement and constructive feedback to help them reach their identified goals.

Our first session

In our first intake session, I will make sure to obtain information from you to clearly understand what brought you therapy. You will identify goals that you want to work on to help you make satisfying changes in your life. We'll determine if it feels safe and comfortable for you to continue. If it's a good fit, we'll schedule our next appointment.
