Hi there, I'm Shawn!

I have been a licensed therapist since 2006. I work primarily with individuals 12 and older. Many patients I see are dealing with anxiety, depression, and stress. My practice focus has always been to try to help each person reach their goals in counseling so they can get what they want from their life.

My focus

I work with preteens through adults facing anxiety, depression, stress, sexual dysfunction due to abuse, and relapse prevention. Many clients who come to me need guidance and empowerment to move forward.

My approach

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy to help you gain insight and make informed, proactive changes. I'm solution-focused, even in grief counseling. When we empower you to make positive change, forward progress happens naturally.

My communication style

I have a relaxed but engaging style. I use humor when appropriate, and people generally feel comfortable with me quickly. Most are surprised their first sessions fly by. Many keep a notebook about things they want to discuss.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always been in a position where I was helping someone. Even as a child, I was always looking to help and fix things. In college, I gravitated toward the humanities, and I currently work full-time as a middle school adjustment counselor. I love the impact I can have on so many students.

My goals for you

One of the first things I ask is about your goals: How long do you think it will take? This tells me how you see your issues and what pace feels comfortable. I make sure I'm absolutely on the same page with you.

Our first session

Expect me to ask a lot of questions. I want to know as much as possible about your situation during intake. We'll set basic treatment goals for subsequent sessions, and I'll check one last time to make sure you're comfortable with me.
