Hi there, I'm Shanika!

I'm a licensed clinical social worker and licensed clinical addictions specialist in North Carolina. I am also able to see clients in South Carolina and Delaware. I provide telehealth therapy for adults dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and the exhaustion that comes from carrying too much.

My focus

I work with adults, with a particular focus on women navigating chronic stress, burnout, and misdiagnosis. Many of my clients are high-functioning and exhausted. They've been strong for everyone else. I help them figure out what they actually need.

My approach

I draw on cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, solution focused therapy, and trauma-informed care. But I don't run sessions by a manual. I pay close attention to what you bring into the room. Stress lives in the body, not just the mind. I work with both.

My communication style

Direct, warm, and plain-spoken. I don't use clinical jargon with clients. I ask honest questions and I tell you what I notice. Sessions feel like a real conversation, not an evaluation. You set the pace. I follow your lead while keeping us on track.

My journey to mental healthcare

I've spent over 15 years in clinical practice and academia. Teaching at a university showed me how often clients are misread by systems not built for them. That gap pushed me toward diagnostic work, somatic care, and building a practice where those clients feel seen from the first session.

My goals for you

We build your goals together in the first few sessions. I don't assign a treatment plan before I know you. As we work, we track what's shifting and adjust. Progress is real when you can name it. I help you see the change that's already happening.

Our first session

I ask more than I talk. We cover what brought you in, what you've already tried, and what you want to feel differently about. I don't diagnose in the first session. I listen. By the end, you'll have a sense of how I work and whether it fits.
