Hi there, I'm Melinda!

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked with individuals & families across the continuum of life transitions. I’ve enjoyed working, over the last 25 years, in school health programs with children/adolescents aged 5-18, nursing homes, community-based behavioral health services for children, families & adults, hospice, & palliative care.

My focus

I mostly work with adults and couples. I have worked with individuals suffering from chronic illnesses, depression, having adjustment difficulties, anxiety, interpersonal conflicts, managing aging, stress, caregiver distress, parenting, life transitions, and anger/frustration.

My approach

My approach is strength-based and person-centered, allowing the client to drive their journey with guidance and support towards reaching their therapeutic goals. I use a blend of behavioral, mindfulness, and experiential therapeutic interventions.

My communication style

I have been told sessions feel like talking to an old friend without the fear of judgment. I have a gentle yet direct approach. I believe in the power of words and lean towards positive strength-focused language.

My journey to mental healthcare

As a Latina woman born and raised in New York City, I witnessed early on the many struggles that our communities faced. From a young age, I envisioned myself helping others, providing them with the safe space they need to feel seen and heard without judgment.

Goals are meant to offer direction and provide a focus of purpose. Creating goals in session will help build insight and motivation towards your success. It’s important to know that goals can initially be unclear, and that’s okay.

The first session can take some courage, so I’ll be commending you on your follow-through. During our first session, you can anticipate that I will inform you of my general style of therapy and communication. We will complete some “housekeeping”.
