Hi there, I'm Amanda!

I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker with supervisory designation and a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor, providing therapy services. My background includes working with adolescent, adult, and geriatric clients to address concerns related to substance use, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and many other conditions.

My focus

I have considerable experience treating depression, anxiety, mood and thought disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and addiction. I am adept at treating co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.

My approach

I approach therapy from a very client-centered perspective. I firmly believe that my clients are the experts on their own lives, situations, experiences, and needs. I regularly utilize tenets of CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, ACT, Mindfulness, and other evidence-based interventions to assist my clients in meeting their individualized goals.

My communication style

I seek to build positive, meaningful therapeutic relationships with each of my clients. I believe that much healing can take place in the context of that relationship and work to establish a conversational and supportive environment so that healing may begin.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always been a “helper.” I worked as a youth pastor on the South Side of Chicago for about 7 years and saw more than my fair share of heartbreak in that role. There were times when I felt powerless to help in the ways I wanted. I made the decision to return to school for Social Work, where I met a wonderful advisor. And I never looked back!

I view goal setting as a client-led process. First and foremost, your therapy should be meaningful to you. I work to formulate and conceptualize goals in collaboration with my clients that will assist them in meeting their own individualized needs.

Our first session

The goal for an initial session is for us simply to get to know one another. I will introduce myself, explain a bit about the therapeutic process, and complete an assessment that will help me understand what led you to seek therapy and begin to gain an understanding of who you are as a person and where you would like to be.
