Not currently accepting patients

Hi there, I'm Nathaniel!

My name is Nathaniel Morgan, and I have been working as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas since 2009. In those 14 years as a therapist, I’ve been fortunate to work with people from all walks of life. I try to learn about people’s different experiences and to help them find their own unique ways to bring about growth, change, and healing, and then to work on the level that best suits them. We can keep it practical or get deep, depending on how it is feeling to you. Therapy can often be just as challenging as it is rewarding, so I do my best to make it enjoyable but respectful, serious but fun, and not drag it out too long, kind of like this bio.

My approach

My approach to therapy is primarily an Existential, Person-Centered approach with the occasional Cognitive Behavioral intervention when appropriate. This allows me to manage and guide the therapeutic process in ways that conform to the person's needs without being directive or forcing the person to conform to my theoretical approach. As such, the solutions to the challenges that are discovered are uniquely your own and ideally suited to bring about the change you desire.

My focus

I have a lot of experience helping people dealing with anger, anxiety, depression, grief, life changes, relationship issues, and trauma. No one lives a single-issue life, so I often find that people come to therapy to deal with a specific challenge, only to realize there are other areas that also need to be addressed. Because of this, I have made it a point to be able to work with whatever arises during the course of therapy. The only issues I do not treat as a primary concern are eating disorders and substance abuse issues since these require a more intensive approach than is possible in a telehealth setting.

My communication style

Being kind, respectful, and ethical are my primary driving principles as a therapist. Having said that, I am easy to talk to because I am just a regular guy, and I don't have much taste for "therapist speak". I have never been accused of sugarcoating anything, but I try my hardest to never challenge someone more than I have supported them.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was super interested in Psychology and Philosophy as a teenager, partly to understand myself better and partly to understand the humans around me and the world we create on a daily basis. I have also always thought of myself as a "helper". I kind of view therapy as applied Philosophy/Psychology and I love helping people lead more well-examined and intentional lives.

My goals for you

I am the expert on the process of therapy, you are the expert on you. I am not going to try to decide what you need to work on or achieve. Instead, I work to help you find what direction you want to go in, then together we figure out how to get there.

My first session with you

After discussing the important housekeeping items, the first session is all about you. I trust you to talk about what you need to talk about, and then we will take it from there. I will not be asking you to "tell me about your mother..." (unless you want to). It is just a talk about what is going on, what brought you here, and what you want to be different.
