Hello! I am Shamari Grayson a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) providing telehealth services to clients in the state of Alabama. My approach to therapy is supportive, client-centered, and solution-focused. I utilize active listening and a strengths-based approach to help individuals navigate depression, anxiety, stress, and life changes. I walk alongside my clients and provide guidance and tools to help improve their current state.
My approach
I adapt my therapeutic approach to the unique needs of the client. I most commonly provide supportive psychotherapy, strength-based therapy, and constructs of both cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. These approaches allow me to help clients discover their own capacity for change.
My focus
I enjoy working with young adults who are experiencing life transitions that may result in anxiety, depression, anger, or excessive stress. My style and approach are a good fit for those who may feel isolated and need someone to listen, acknowledge, and validate their thoughts and feelings. I reassure my clients they are not alone and that they have the capacity to overcome their current challenges and enjoy brighter days ahead.
My communication style
My communication style is warm and empathetic. I pride myself on active non-judgemental listening and providing a safe confidential space for clients to fully express themselves. I utilize gentle confrontation to challenge clients to recognize and address maladaptive thoughts and behaviors interfering with their functioning.
My journey to mental healthcare
When I think back on some of the most challenging times in my life, it was my faith and my support that helped me get through. I feel a calling in my life to inspire that same hope in others and be a support for them like someone was for me. Specifically, to comfort them where they are while empowering them to see that they can get better, even if their situation doesn't immediately get better.
My goals for you
I ask clients directly what their goals are for our time together. This allows me to gain a clear understanding of their needs and the direction of their treatment. I center session content around the client's identified goals and update them with the client as often as needed.
My first session with you
The first session is spent building rapport and gathering assessment information. I ask clients to tell me about themselves, including their history of treatment if they have one, and their current issues and needs. I may initiate some basic screening tools if applicable to further gauge the client's current state. I explore coping skills, support systems, medication history, and daily routine. Lastly, I work with the client to create a treatment plan and address any questions or concerns they might have.
