Hi, my name is Gayle Dougherty and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based out of Prescott, Arizona and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adult individuals and specialize in trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship issues and post partum depression using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Somatic Therapy and Attachment Therapy to help clients understand and process past and current trauma and issues to work towards healing and gain a better sense of self.
My approach
My approach to therapy is to meet clients where they are at and help guide them through the therapy journey. I use Psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory and Somatic Therapy to help clients identify thought and behavior patterns and learn new skills to improve quality of life.
My focus
I have found working with adults who have experienced childhood and/or adult trauma resulting in symptoms of depression, anxiety, unhealthy relationships and difficulty with daily activities have been a good fit. I work at the client's pace and patiently work towards the journey of healing.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, open and friendly. I like to listen and make clients feel comfortable by allowing them space and time to share about themselves.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have fond memories of my elementary school counselor spending time in our classroom and talking about feelings. I have since been called to helping others in time of struggle and need with a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. My life experiences, both positive and negative, have allowed me to find empathy in others' adversity and I decided to return to school and get my Master's in Mental Health Counseling in order to use my passion to help others.
My goals for you
I like to build trust and rapport with clients and work collaboratively with them to identify and set goals that meet their therapy needs.
My first session with you
The first session will be getting to know each other, building trust and rapport and actively listening to the client to understand concerns, issues and what led them to seek help with therapy. I listen without judgement and provide time and space to share emotions as well as working together to make an individual plan toward the healing process.
