I am Stephen Graves a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT103004). I work with Adults and Couples using an integrative approach. I help clients struggling with anxiety, depression, and challenges that come from relationship issues.
My approach
I believe in practical solutions to problems. I use evidence-based practices that have been proven to show results. My focus is on the interpersonal process and pulls in components from different evidence-based theoretical orientations. Some of these include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), CBT, and family systems.
My focus
I specialize in treating adults and couples struggling with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and difficulty adapting to life's changes.
My communication style
I believe in an open inclusive environment. My relationship with my clients is one based on honesty, acceptance, and mutual respect. I strive to provide a safe space to openly examine self-doubt, conflicted feelings, and emotions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist because I want to help make a difference in people's lives. Seeing people make positive healthy changes in their lives is what motivates me to care for my patients every day.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is based on the driver and navigator model. As the client, you are the one driving the car. If you tell me where you want to go, I can help by reading the map and offering input about the best route to get to your destination.
My first session with you
At our first session, we will get to know one another. I will tell you about my background and experience and I will have some questions for you. I will want to know what brings you to therapy, some background information on family, and if you were in counseling before, and if so, what worked and what did not work.
