Hello all! My name is Kendra Hamilton. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I graduated from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in 2018 with my Master's in Social Work (MSW) and have conducted therapy since. I also hold a Bachelor's in Gender and Women's Studies with an emphasis in Social Work and Welfare from CSUN. The modalities I have training in are: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
My approach
I have a holistic view of therapy where I ask clients to look at multiple aspects of their life to encourage all-around good health and well-being. I center my sessions around radical acceptance and grounded in your personal treatment goal. We will tackle issues through a lens of strength, empowerment, validation, and acceptance.
My focus
I work with adults age range from 18-60. Most of my clients are women, people of color, and the LGBTQIA community. The diagnoses I see are anxiety, depression, PTSD & complex trauma. Though not my focus, I also see people with other diagnoses such as ADHD and bipolar disorder. My clients come to me to work through issues/trauma, find ways to cope, and build an understanding of their symptoms.
My communication style
I hold an honest and transparent space in the session. I am going to be my authentic self and encourage clients to do the same. I believe there should be no judgment in the therapy space. This is a place of freedom and growth. I believe the best outcomes from therapy stem from the healthiest professional relationship between client and therapist.
My journey to mental healthcare
Therapy found me, I actually started grad school interested in doing macro social work but since doing therapy I have grown and learned so much. I love therapy because I believe in the power of change. Everyone should have the personal time and opportunity to change. Through work and consistency, people can reach their treatment goals. I value therapy because it is like no other kind of relationship. It is tough and it is beautiful
My goals for you
You are in control of your session and what topics you have. I make recommendations based on your goals. I focus on identifying and preventing barriers and goals that lead you closer to your ideal life.
My first session with you
The first session will be an assessment, goal setting, and giving you more insight into my style and personality. Every therapist conducts therapy in their own way, so it is important you feel that I am a good fit. My therapeutic approach is conducting a thorough assessment then following it with therapeutic alignment and relationship building. Interventions are based on your current life issues. Treatment termination is defined by both myself and the client.
