Hello, my name is Michelle Uribe. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have found that helping individuals grow their capacity to view a situation in multiple ways, problem solve and adapt is a great way to make a difference in the world.
My approach
My philosophy is client-centered and I am happy to utilize a variety of strategies to meet clients where they are in their mental health journey. Developing trusting, therapeutic relationships by remaining curious, positive, empathetic, and honest is foundational to my approach. I will tailor our sessions and treatment plan to meet your specific needs. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process.
My focus
I enjoy working with a wide range of age groups and challenges. I have practiced in both educational settings and clinical settings. My experience includes helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, grief, loss, and parenting concerns.
My communication style
I am curious, calm, and positive. My primary function as a therapist is to listen without judgment and support different ways of viewing a problem in order to make a plan to implement actionable solutions.
My journey to mental healthcare
In a previous life, I was a middle school teacher working among a diverse population of students and families. I believe this is what catalyzed my interest in mental health and family systems. I began to wonder...What fuels motivation? How can teachers, parents, and students communicate more effectively? Before long I was in a master's program in counseling. For three years I was a Behavioral Health Specialist at an elementary school, working closely with families and providing individual and group therapy to children. Most recently, I was a school counselor at an elementary school, where I developed a comprehensive school-wide counseling program. Recognizing individual strengths and empowering people to be problem solvers and move towards their goals and dreams is rewarding and challenging. I believe supporting individual well-being is a gratifying way to better our community.
My goals for you
My approach is collaborative. As a therapist, my role is to support clients in identifying goals that represent measurable and gratifying progress for them. The initial sessions may consist of full conversations that reveal themes and patterns in the stories and information shared. Therapists have the ability to surface and identify these themes. However, it is up to the client to prioritize their goals and decide what they are willing to do to effect change going forward.
My first session with you
Clients can expect a lot of interest in their personal journey and what brought them to therapy. They will gain an understanding of how I work and an honest discussion about whether or not there's a goodness of fit and if we want to continue to meet.
