Hi! My name is Pamela Thompson and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I love working with individuals of all ages and primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy with patients as it has been proven to be the most effective treatment for the majority of mental health issues. Having said that, I believe that therapy should be tailored for each patient and that often means incorporating other types of therapy techniques into treatment. I work most often with patients experiencing anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, life stressors, and adjustment disorders from separation and divorce to life changes, but also have experience with trauma, PTSD, autism, and personality disorders.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is to collaborate with patients to set goals and work towards them so patients feel invested in their treatment. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because it has been proven to be most effective for patients across the board. I often incorporate positive psychology, narrative therapy, exposure therapy, and mindfulness, too, as they provide useful tools and concepts that support CBT.
My focus
I work most often with patients experiencing anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, life stressors, and adjustment disorders from separation and divorce to life changes, but also have experience with trauma, PTSD, autism, and personality disorders.
My communication style
I believe interactive and collaborative are good words to describe working with me in therapy. I believe being a good listener is important for a therapist but also believe in being solution-focused, goal-oriented, and having a purpose. I feel most patients are looking for help with something specific or several issues, and want to feel they are making progress, getting help, and being heard.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became interested in being a therapist way back in HS. I loved and still do love the idea of helping others. I believe the mind is a powerful instrument and therapists can help transform people's thoughts and feelings to provide healing.
My goals for you
After the initial intake appointment, or even by the end of the initial appointment, goals are formulated and re-assessed throughout therapy.
My first session with you
During a first session with me, clients can expect to share about themselves in fairly great detail. I typically ask about their lives from birth to present in order to move fluidly from past to present as needed in treatment.
