My name is Mirna Pina and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master's in Social Work and Master's of Science in Public Health, with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
My approach
My theoretical orientation utilizes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I work collaboratively with clients to help guide them in cultivating a deeper sense of self-awareness and empower clients to make changes that align with their values and goals. My approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help you effectively address personal life challenges. Therapy can support you in developing an understanding of what is driving the challenges you are facing and developing skills to overcome them by breaking cyclical self-defeating thoughts and moving from surviving to thriving.
My focus
I work with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, past traumas, life transitions, and parental stressors. I help build on individuals' personal strengths and empower them toward meaningful actions that contribute to a fulfilling life. Having experience working with children with behavioral needs, I am passionate about working with parents of children of all ages. Parenthood is a transformative experience and parent coaching can support you in addressing the hurdles you may face as a parent including boundary setting and enforcement, responding to and managing problematic behavior, practicing teamwork with your partner, bonding with your child, and effectively managing stress and scheduling self-care.
My communication style
My style is to compassionately listen, support you in exploring underlying causes of challenging behaviors, problem-solving, and offer practical feedback. I help motivate you to make small changes that lead to big impacts. Working with me you can expect to learn concrete skills to effectively manage the situations in your life.
My goals for you
Setting goals is critical to monitoring progress and ensuring steps toward the life that you want to achieve. I will explore individual's values and expectations to collaboratively outline goals that are achievable.
My first session with you
The first session is an opportunity to share your story, describe your experiences, and what you hope to achieve from therapy.
